Who we are
In 1995, after identifying the medical needs of the pediatric population of Puerto Rico, Doming Cruz Vivaldi, Dr. Luis Clavel and Alfredo Vӧlckers registered with the State Department this foundation, which since then has changed the lives of hundreds of boys and girls in Puerto Rico.
San Jorge Children's Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of children in Puerto Rico. Many organizations and individuals since our inception have collaborated to offer our participants excellent services to help improve their quality of life. This group of distinguished citizens constitute our Board of Directors.

Today, our Foundation has two main programs that seek to satisfy two important issues in the lives of our children: health and education.
Grant Program (financial assistance)
Through the Grant Program, we assist low-income families in defraying the costs for the participants so they can receive necessary medical treatment. Our efforts are aimed primarily at helping two main groups:
- patients in oncology or hematology
- patients with physical malformations, including congenital or acquired
We offer financial assistance to cover costs for:
- evaluations
- laboratories
- medical studies
- medications
- medical treatments
- anesthesia
- operating room cost
- surgery cost
- hospital cost
- treatment/surgery follow up
*These grants are offered if they are not covered by health insurance.
To qualify for the aid, the parent/guardian of the patient must submit the documents requested by the Foundation to be evaluated. Once received, a case manager will interview the parent/guardian and the eligibility committee will evaluate the information presented.
Educational Program
The 2006 Educational Program was established with the aim to offer the patient-student the tools necessary to achieve their academic goals while receiving medical treatments. We have a group of teachers certified by the Department of Education which offers academic services to children and youth while they are held in the Hospital and also help them in their residence to complete their homework.
Amount our services are:
- Coordination of educational and social services
- At home education
- Art Workshops
- Orientation programs and services offered by the Department of Education
- Tracking academic progress (during and after hospitalization)
- Summer School
- Access to materials and equipment
- Guidance / Counseling
